Executive summary: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) is considered as a major contributor to global antimicrobial resistance and continues to be a threat to public health despite a remarkable change in treatment and diagnosis in recent time. Tuberculosis that does not respond to at least two first line anti-TB drugs isoniazid and rifampicin is denoted multi-drug resistance (MDR). Though the tuberculosis treatment success rate has increased in Bangladesh, but the drug resistant tuberculosis case detection rate is also in upward trend. This study has focused on the drug-resistant tuberculosis patients treatment outcomes. It is a nation-wide retrospective Cohort study with a sample size 3679 from 2015 to 2019. The study data has been extracted from an Electronic Tuberculosis Management software which is running in the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) from 2013. We have observed the socio-demographic factors like gender, age, type of residence, case definition and treatment outcomes relationships. Our planned to determine the treatment failures associated factors based on the patient clinical history including drug resistant type, treatment regimen, previous treatment history and taken antibiotics. The data has been entered, clean, and analyze using the statistical data analysis software Stata Version-16.0. We did a Chi-square test for dichotomous variables. While the outcome variable is binary, we did univariate and multivariate logistic regression to assess the relationship between the treatment outcomes and independent variables. A p-value < 0.05 has considered as statistically significant. This study may recommend the policy makers to improve the drug susceptibility test facilities in all the TB centers across the country.
